So, I went out riding tonight.
First off, I went to my friend's house to pick up my hex key set. It was lucky, because it was like, 1:00 in the morning and he was just coming out the door. He said he'd left them in a flower pot, but I checked and didn't see them, but he gave them to me, so it's all good.
I tightened my chaindisk, then continued on my path.
My next stop was 7/11.
I had about $2.70 or $2.80 on me, so I went to the beverages.
After looking for a minute or two, I picked my drink, a 23.5 ounce can of blue raspberry Jolt.
I went to the front desk, the total came to $2.05. I handed the cashier two dollar bills and a dime, received my nickel and change, then walked out the door.
My next stop was a laundromat. I went there because they have a little bank outside.
I rode there for about 5 minutes, then left.
Next I went to another bank and rode there for about 10 or 15 minutes, during which I saw a police car drive by.
So, then I was riding down the sidewalk next to the local high school.
I saw the police car in the parking lot.
I knew why he was there. It's illegal to be on school property after 10:00pm, and here it was, about 1:15 or 1:30 in the morning.
He was about 100 to 150 feet away from the entrance to the parking lot, which I was riding in the direction of.
As I was nearing the entrance, I thought for a moment.
I was about halfway through the parking lot, riding towards the school as fast as I could when he noticed me.
I heard his tires screech and looked behind me as he began chasing.
I saw him turn around as I hopped up a curb, entering the school campus.
I knew his car was faster than me and my bike, but I knew his car couldn't go down stair sets.
As I was speeding through the courtyard I saw his headlights.
I took a turn, then another, and rode down a 14 stair.
I was riding toward another parking lot, (This school has four.) and I saw him turn in.
I quickly turned around and began riding in the opposite direction.
I entered the next parking lot, but quickly turned around.
He was pretty sharp, I'll give him that.
I then rode up an access rode which led to the back of the school, as he was gaining.
I don't know why he was so determined.
The access road turns, and goes through a gate.
After school hours, the gate is usually closed and locked. Tonight was no exception.
Due to the low visibility, I had about 3 seconds, maximum, to figure out what to do.
The gate was locked via a chain. I crouched down as low as I could, hoping the chain was above my handlebars, and hoping the gap in the gate was more than 24 inches wide.
I heard screeching tires as I felt the chain lightly run across the top of my head.
I looked behind me, seeing the police car begin to reverse away from the gate.
I looked back ahead and continued pedaling fast.
About 3 or 4 minutes after that, I walked through the door into my house, and wrote this post.
